Comments: Why I loathe talk radio

Dibble is a moron. Someone should have called in and said, "How hard is it to throw a baseball? My daughter can do that." Sure, you *can* ride a bicycle, but not nearly as well as Lance Armstrong can do it. And if he thinks the bike is doing most of the work, I invite him to come trail-riding with me and see how he feels the next day. Idiot.

Most talk radio outside of NPR these days is all about shouting and getting attention at all costs. There's nothing thoughtful or edifying about it; it's just a chance for a cranky nation to blow off steam. I'll pass.

I used to Morning Edition coming into work and then All Things Considered going home. After 10 years of this, specifically Mr. Bob Edwards sonorous reading, I couldn't take it anymore. (About Mr. Edwards' departure..Sad to hear it since he was one of the originators of the show, but it was inevitable as there needed to be a change in vocal timbre. I must be one of the few folks who couldn't stand his Friday dialogues with Red Barber...now that was a waste of air time..). So now, I listen to a Phiily talk show, WIP, in the morning and The World on the return trip. I like the morning talk show. Hosts are very funny, mainly poking fun at themselves, Philly politics and the Philly fans. Do they rile some folks up? Yeah, on occassion, but their clever jokes, especially Al Morganti's asides, are more than worth the occassional early morning drunk's time on air. Sorry you can't listen to WIP on the internet; it would be worth a try.
