So I assume the Expos/Senators will be in the same division as the Phillies? Where are you going to throw your support?
Posted by mike n. at September 29, 2004 08:21 PMCarl, if I come up with any extra tickets, consider them yours.
Posted by Mediocre Fred at September 29, 2004 11:49 PMIf the current administration continues their occupation of the White House, the team will be called the "Haliburton Hurlers". Corporate sponsorship exposed to the max.
Posted by DarkoV at September 30, 2004 08:31 AMMike, it'll be like my Caps/Flyers dynamic: root for Washington, EXCEPT when they play Philadephia. And hope they never meet in the playoffs, unless it's the conference final/NLCS.
"Beltway Bandits" would be a good team name.
Posted by Carl at September 30, 2004 09:12 AMI like Beltway Bandits. I like Beltway Barons better to honor our long line of blue-blooded Presidents. But how about the Mudslingers? I don't how original of an idea that is; I probably thought it in parallel with 23428874 other people.
Anyway, I like the treaty you've formed with your DC/Philly teams. It's hard being in a sports crazed town when you grew up somewhere else.
I've had to work on the same compromises. I follow the Vikings passionately until the Cowboys are playing them. But the Twins are the first team I've followed unconditionally. As a kid I just follwed whatever team Nolan Ryan was on. But I refuse to become a Timberwolves fan. They are too close of a rival to the San Antonio Spurs.
Posted by mike n. at October 1, 2004 12:44 AMThe 1980 Phillies were the first big-league team I ever saw, and despite moving a few years later to spend my adolescence in Twins country, the Phillies remained my team in the NL.
But no more. I have absolutely no compunction flipping the Phillies card from "friend" to "foe" now that Washington has a team of its own. Let's go ex-Expos!
