The physics behind most amusement park rides, including this one, really do not require much of a safety harness to keep you in the ride. Gravity is gravity is gravity. She will (and did) fall at the same rate as you in your seatbelt.

Those restraints are more to keep idiots onboard who might try to get out of the position the ride is designed to be safely ridden in.

That said, it still sounds pretty funny.
